Welcome to Simplicious Food. My name is Brittany Thomas. I am a registered dietitian (RD), certified yoga instructor, and an avid foodie who loves to spend time in the kitchen. The title of my blog is exactly what it implies – recipes and tips for creating simple and delicious food. My love for cooking began at young age. Some of my best childhood memories are of my best friend and I baking cookies and cakes, with varying degrees of success. Thankfully, my cooking skills have progressed beyond Betty CrockerTM cake mixes. Now I love cooking because it connects me with my food, my family and my community. The path to become a registered dietitian was an obvious one for me because it allowed me to combine my love for cooking with my passion for teaching others how to incorporate healthier foods into their lives. Outside of the kitchen, you can find me in a yoga studio, or training for some sort of race, such as a half marathon, marathon or a triathlon. My love for sport and athletics has remained a constant in my life after spending 15 years riding horses doing competitive show jumping.

As you likely noticed, there is a lot of confusing and conflicting nutrition information out there. I started this blog because I believe everyone should have access to accurate, evidenced-based nutrition information from a registered dietitian. I believe that there is no “one-size fits all” when it comes to healthy eating. Everyone has different nutritional needs and different food preferences, so naturally, there are many different ways to eat healthy. I hope you will find some information on my blog that will help you navigate your unique path towards healthier eating. I’ll translate the evidence into food-based tips and provide healthy recipes so you can make informed decisions about what you put on your plate.

Knowing what to eat is important, but knowing how to make it taste good is even more important. There’s no need to sacrifice taste for better nutrition – just one small catch: you need to get in the kitchen. Cooking is not a lost art. It is essential for our health, and it connects us to our family, our friends, our culture, and our natural environment. The food industry is very happy to cook for us. However, eating highly processed foods comes at a high cost to our health. The best thing about preparing your own meals from scratch is you spend a lot less time fussing over nutrition labels and counting calories, and more time simply enjoying your food. The health benefits of preparing meals from scratch speak for themselves, no nutrition labels required.

I hope that I can convince you that eating is about more than just nutrients. When you prepare your own meals, you begin to discover that food is nourishing on so many levels. I will strive to show you that healthy eating can be simple, it can be easy, and above all, it is delicious!
